Like many others, I hate going to the dentist but it’s let’s face it we have to go. I went to a new dentist today as my dental insurance has changed…so time to pick a new dentist – frankly, I didn’t make an educated choice. I picked someone from a list and talked with the practice.
First of all, they had my appointment 45 minutes later then need be. Then they tried giving me a cleaning when I just had one last month. Secondly, they messed up the x-rays. But all in all, I will stay open to this practice. Although, on the way out the dentist said we will talk more next time as I have some additional suggestions.
My previous dentist was referred through a friend and she was great. Although, when at the dentist I always feel my self-confidence drop slightly. Maybe it’s because #1 I have to tell all dentists that I am in recovery, can they look for damage to my teeth? I have been lucky and no damage, #2 all this things in your mouth and they ask you questions and they you sound like a muffle sound machine when you talk – is not that empowering, #3 oh the recommendations.
This previous dentist took pictures (x-rays,etc) digitally. So, she would bring you over to a computer monitor and specifically point out and show you the areas where your teeth weren’t straight, aligned, discolored, too gummy, not gummy enough and the kicker was it got the outside area by your lips…and on this computer screen enlarges even the blondiest of facial hair appears, makeup line, and any imperfections in the skin.
I always vow to floss more when visiting the dentist, only to be back to once a day flossing with in days, and brushing for two minutes each time I brush. I vow to use the expensive toothpaste, to help with sensitivity to cold, but I just go get what’s on sale. Yes, I don’t have the best follow through when it comes to dentists.
Any recommendations?
